Cardio-vascular health is a
reflection of diet and lifestyle. Some bacteria like H. Pylori can cause
inflammation of the vessels, high blood pressure, and heart disease. All these
factors are investigated in depth with the use of functional diagnostic tests
before applying any therapy to the biochemical glitch. Each individual will
present unique biochemical imbalances. So, each one of my prescriptions will be
unique.
Metabolic markers of high
triglycerides, high cholesterol, high or low cholesterol particles, blood sugar
dysregulation, insulin resistance, and other, are closely investigated too. In
functional medicine we know that insulin levels are more important to
investigate than glucose levels when it comes to determine insulin resistance or
diabetes type I. But we don’t stop there! We also investigate and address the
myriad of cardio-metabolic issues that arise from this metabolic dysregulation
of insulin that is caused by diet and lifestyle.
In functional medicine we
look at the hormonal balance of all our patients / clients. High cortisol leads
to insulin resistance and obesity, as well as to PCOs in women; or high blood
pressure. Men with low testosterone will have high levels of estrogen which
puts them at high risk of developing cancer of the prostate or even of the
breast. Abnormal hormonal balance causes infertility in both men and women. And
women in menopause and peri-menopause go through the toughest times of their
lives when their levels of estrogen and progesterone decline naturally with
age.
Whatsoever the health
problem may be, functional medicine will have a deep impact than other
approaches to find the various biochemical imbalance that cause the main
symptoms through functional lab testing and address them with nutrients,
healing foods, lifestyle prescriptions, and stress management.
